Loyola University New Orleans joins national initiative

to offer improved consumer resources

(New Orleans)ŚLoyola University New Orleans supports a new national initiative to provide comprehensive public information to help prospective students judge the quality of higher education institutions. Loyola, along with hundreds of other private colleges, is working to offer a solution through a commitment to transparency and accountability. Participation in a new Web-based project, called the University and College Accountability Network (U-CAN), is one step toward the university commitment to offer consumers improved higher education resources.

No single objective consumer resource except for U-CAN exists to help prospective students choose a college or university that best fits their needs. Students and families will have free online access to objective and measurable data thatĺs supplemented by targeted hyperlinks to an institutionĺs website. Through the initiative, Loyola will work with other institutions to offer consumers the information they need to make the best college choice. Loyolaĺs profile page launched on Wednesday, September 26, and can be found at http://members.ucan-network.org/loyno

The National Association of Independent Colleges and Universities (NAICU) is leading the development of U-CAN, and the information provided is derived from the U.S. Department of Educationĺs IPEDS survey and the Common Data Set. Data and narrative sections within the institutional profiles will cover admissions, enrollment, academics, student demographics, graduation rates, most common fields of study, transfer of credit policy, accreditation, faculty information, class size, tuition and feeds trends, price of attendance, financial aid, campus housing, student life, and campus safety. More information on U-CAN can be found at http://www.ucan-network.org/id.11,id2.651/default.asp

With a rich Jesuit heritage and as one of the largest Catholic universities in the South, Loyola has retained its position among the top 10 regional universities in the South in the U.S. News & World Reportĺs special issue ôAmericaĺs Best Collegesö for the past 17 years. Visit us at www.loyno.edu
