The Yale Glee Club began with thirteen men from the class of 1863. In 1921, Marshal Bartholomew began a 32-year tenure as director, adding serious classical music to the repertoire for the first time. The Yale Glee Club soon became synonymous with male chorus singing at its finest. Mr. Bartholomew’s retirement in 1953 brought Fenno Heath to the directorship of the Club, under whose baton it evolved into the chorus of men and women it is today. Dr. Douma was appointed director in 2003, becoming the group’s seventh leader in 144 years.
