Commencement Plans Announced

Loyola announcement - January 26, 2007

The Rev. Kevin Wm. Wildes, S.J., has announced his decision to hold Loyola's commencement ceremonies for 2007 at the New Orleans Arena. There will be a unified ceremony for all the undergraduates and graduates of the university on Saturday, May 12, at 10 a.m., except for The College of Law, which will hold its commencement on Friday evening, May 11, at 7 p.m.

In an e-mail addressed to the campus community on January 18, Wildes addressed student concerns and explained his decision to move the ceremony downtown was based on finding an adequate rain site. In past years, inclement weather has forced the ceremony inside the Rec Plex, which limited the number of people who could attend the ceremony. Wildes stated, “Having our 2007 commencement ceremonies in the New Orleans Arena guarantees that all of your family and friends will be in attendance at your graduation.”

Loyola's commencement has been held in the horseshoe only since 2000. Before 2000, graduation was held at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center, the Morris F.X. Jeff Sr. Municipal Auditorium, and the Mahalia Jackson Theater of Performing Arts.
