Hurricane Education Recovery Award Allocates $1.9 Million to Loyola

(New Orleans)—Loyola University New Orleans has been allocated $1.9 million from the Emergency Supplemental Appropriations Act for Defense, the Global War on Terror and Hurricane Recovery 2006.

The Emergency Supplemental Appropriations Act which was signed by President Bush on June 15, 2006, provides $50 million to the Secretary of Education to assist institutions of higher education that suffered losses as a result of the hurricanes in the Gulf of Mexico in 2005.

Each institution that qualified for funding under the law is receiving a proportionate share of the $50 million based on its relative share of expenses and damages incurred by the hurricanes. Colleges must submit formal applications detailing how they will spend the grants before the money is disbursed.
