(NEW ORLEANS)--Dunbar’s Creole Cooking opened on Monday, August 28, at Loyola University’s Broadway Activities Center, located at 501 Pine Street. The adored soul food restaurant, formerly housed in 4927 Freret Street, is back offering its original menu for take-out breakfast, lunch, and dinner from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday – Friday. Dunbar's will also be open on Saturdays from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on a trial basis to see if there is enough business to warrant a Saturday opening.

Mrs. Dunbar had operated the restaurant for 21 years before its doors were shuttered from flood damage on August 29, 2005. Her determination to come back and reopen her business eventually led her to partner with Loyola’s Dining Services, who gladly welcomed her celebrated home cooking onto campus. With its reasonable prices and tasty Creole dishes, the new venture is sure to be a success with the neighboring universities and serious foodies from around New Orleans that used to frequent the former location. The menu will consist of the same daily options the business has offered in years past- including favorites like its breakfast specials, gumbo, red beans and rice, mustard greens, Po-boys, fried chicken, and tempting bread pudding.
