Loyola University Receives $1.7 Million From

Hurricane Katrina Foreign Contribution Award

(New Orleans) – The U.S. Department of Education announced yesterday that it has designated $1.7 million from the Hurricane Katrina Foreign Contribution Awards to Loyola University New Orleans. The Hurricane Katrina Foreign Contributions Awards are intended to assist institutions of higher education that suffered losses as a result of the hurricanes in the Gulf of Mexico in the calendar year of 2005.

In the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, a number of foreign governments and international entities generously made donations of financial assistance to the United States government to support hurricane relief and recovery efforts. Foreign donations amounted to approximately $30 million for institutions of higher education.

The awards may be used for equipment and instruction.

“Loyola University is grateful to be a part of the relief efforts of those foreign governments who generously donated funds, ” Fr. Kevin Wm. Wildes, S.J., president of Loyola University, said in a recent statement. “These funds will assist us as we move forward and work to help the region recover.”
