Loyola Opera Theater presents Gounod愀 Romeo and Juliet

Loyola press release - May 8, 2006

The College of Music's Opera Theater presents Gounod's Romeo and Juliet Friday, May 12, 2006 and Sunday, May 14, 2006. Both performances are at 7:30 p.m. in Roussel Performance Hall.

The fully-staged opera production will be directed by David Morelock and music will be conducted by Carol Rausch. Sword fights are staged by noted combat choreographer Robert Richardson. The production will feature a professional orchestra, 25-member chorus, and a ballet sequence.

Performances have sold out for the last three years. Tickets are $40 for reserved seating, $25 for general admission, and $10 for students. For ticket information, please call the College of Music at (504) 865-3037.

Gounod's adaptation evokes the intensity of Shakespeare's famous tragedy of two lovers torn apart by their rivaling families. The spectacular and tender music depicts the joy and anguish of two individuals who would do anything to be together.
