(New Orleans)—The James Madison Memorial Fellowship Foundation has chosen Victoria McCardell of Lafayette, La., as a senior fellow for the year 2006. The fellowship also provides a summer semester at Georgetown.

McCardell has been hired as a social studies teacher at Mount Carmel Academy in New Orleans. She graduated from Loyola on Saturday, April 29 with a bachelor of arts degree in history, summa cum laude.

The James Madison Fellowships acknowledges future gifted secondary school teachers of American history, American government, and social studies. The fellowship provides as much as $24,000 for each fellow’s programs of study toward a master’s degree in history. Students from all fifty states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and the territories of the United States compete for the awards.
