(New Orleans)-- The Loyola Jazz Band will perform at the 2006 New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival on Friday, April 28 at 11:30 a.m. at the New Orleans Fair Grounds in the Bellsouth WWOZ Jazz Tent. John Mahoney, professor of music and coordinator of Jazz studies, will direct.

The award-winning band has been invited to perform at the festival for the past several years, a feat that highlights the band’s talent as performers are selected from hundreds of local, national and international acts. The Loyola Band is part of a line-up this year that includes artists such as Bob Dylan, Dr. John and Irvin Mayfield & the New Orleans Jazz Orchestra. This year’s festival, presented by Shell, has been touted as a homecoming event marking the revival of music and culture in New Orleans since Hurricane Katrina ravaged the city.
