Jim Gabour Wins Nomination for 49th Annual Grammy® Awards

Loyola press release - December 7, 2006

(New Orleans)—Loyola Professor of Video Technology and Artist-in-Residence Jim Gabour has been nominated by The Recording Academy® for a 2007 Grammy Award for his video, Flow: Living In The Stream Of Music, which he directed and produced. Gabour is up for the award for Best Long Form Music Video, which honors both the artist and video director for a video album package consisting of more than one song or track.

Filmed on four continents, the low-budget, high-concept ninety-minute film was selected from a list of almost three hundred music industry entries to end in the final five official nominees, pitted against the Madonna’s multi-million-dollar “I Want to Tell You a Secret”, Bruce Springsteen’s twentieth anniversary retrospective of “Born to Run”, the high-end virtual-band Gorillaz concert, and Death Cab for Cutie's eleven-video compilation.

Flow: Living in the Stream of Music, the documentary about Grammy award-winning New Orleans trumpeter/composer Terence Blanchard and his band, had its premiere in New Orleans in October during the New Orleans Film Festival. The film follows Blanchard as he performs on four continents with his band of young, engaging musicians. Filmed over an entire year, Flow documents the mentoring and growth of what many critics are calling one of the premier jazz bands of our time, as they prepare and perform before sold-out audiences in Paris, Tokyo, Osaka, and Capetown South Africa. In Hollywood, the band members perform as soloists when Terence conducts an eighty-piece symphony orchestra rendering his score for Spike Lee's film Inside Man - Blanchard's 38th film. Part travelogue, part concert, part engaging documentation of what it means to commit to a life in music, Flow aims at both entertaining and enlightening its audience.

Winners will be announced at the Grammy awards ceremony on February 11, 2007, at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, which will be broadcast live on CBS from 8 – 11:30 p.m. (ET/PT.) For a complete list of nominees for the 2007 Grammy Awards, please visit www.grammy.com.
