Friends of New Orleans hosts 450 law students and faculty over the holiday break

(New Orleans)ŚOver 450 law school students and faculty from all over the United States will travel to New Orleans December 27 Ś January 7 to participate in a volunteer project. Friends of New Orleans, the private, nonprofit, nonpartisan, membership organization that provides a vehicle for people to declare their support for the region, is organizing a large part of the trip. Throughout their visit, the group will visit with neighborhood leaders, walk the levees, tour hospitals and charter schools, and learn more about eco-friendly construction.

The group will also attend a lecture in Roussel Hall on Thursday, January 4, at 6 p.m., featuring John Barry, author of Rising Tide: The Great Mississippi Flood of 1927 and How It Changed America and The Great Influenza: The Story of the Deadliest Plague in History, and King Milling, president of Whitney National Bank and Chairman of the Governorĺs Advisory Commission on Coastal Restoration and Conservation. The event is free and open to the public.
