Law Alum awarded 2006 Presidents' Award by New Orleans Bar Association

Evangeline M. Vavrick Awarded NOBA's Presidents' Award

New Orleans Bar Association (NOBA) President Carmelite M. Bertaut presented Evangeline M. Vavrick with the 2006 Presidentsĺ Award at a reception held in her honor on August 31, 2006. This award recognizes attorneys who have dedicated themselves to community service in the exercise of the highest ideals of citizenship. This award is the highest level of recognition from the Association.

On hand to witness the event were numerous members of Vavrickĺs family, the Archbishop Alford C. Hughes, Fr. James Carter, Loyola University, Prof. Jim Klebba, Loyola Law School, Tim Ryan, University of New Orleans and Gordon Wadge, Associated Catholic Charities. Past NOBA Presidents on hand were the Honorable Jerry A. Brown, Jack C. Benjamin, Sr., Cameron C. Gamble, Grady S. Hurley and Thomas O. Lind. Several past Presidentsĺ Award recipients including Robert B. Acomb, Jr., Gene W. Lafitte and the aforementioned Benjamin also attended.

Vavrick has been active in the Louisiana State Bar Association as a member of the House of Delegates, the New Orleans Bar Association, the Louisiana Trial Lawyers Association and the American Bar Association. She has been President, Vice President and Secretary of both the Academy of New Orleans Trial Lawyers and the New Orleans Chapter of the Federal Bar Association. Under the leadership of Plauche Villere she worked to establish the Continuing Legal Education program for new lawyers and to conduct admissions to the Eastern, Middle and Western District of the U.S. District Courts, all on the same day.

Vavrick has served for many years on the Archbishopĺs Community Appeal and on the Board of Catholic Charities. She has served as President of Catholic Charities and as Chairwoman of the Catholic Charities Ball.

An active alumnus of Loyola University, she has served as President of the Loyola Alumni Association and in 1996 was the recipient of the Loyola Law School St. Ives Award.
