Loyola University New Orleans graduate selected as Pickering Fellow

(New Orleans)—Loyola University New Orleans 2005 graduate of International Studies, Regine Rene, B’05, was selected by the U.S. Department of State as a Thomas R. Pickering Graduate Foreign Affairs Fellow.

The Pickering Graduate Foreign Affairs Fellowship is funded by the U.S. Department of State and administered by the Woodrow Wilson National Fellowship Foundation. The program seeks to recruit talented students in academic programs relevant to international affairs, political and economic analysis, administration, management, and science policy. The goal is to attract outstanding students from all ethnic, racial and social backgrounds who have an interest in pursuing a foreign service career in the U.S. Department of State.

The program funds the student’s tuition, room, board, books, and one round trip travel between home and school. As part of her career development training, Ms. Rene will receive annual orientations in Washington, D.C., two paid summer internships with the Department, and guidance from a Foreign Service Officer mentor during her graduate studies. Upon completion of her graduate degree, Ms. Rene, currently attending American University in Washington D.C., will enter the Foreign Service in fulfillment of a service obligation to the U.S. Department of State.
