Biever Guest Lecture Series presents Dr. Michel Tibayrenc
Loyola announcement - March 5, 2005
Dr. Michel Tibayrenc is head of the Laboratory of Genetics & Evolution of Infectious Disease, director of research at the Institute of Research for Development, and originator and editor-in-chief of the journal, Infection, Genetics and Evolution, in Montpellier, France.
He will give a seminar on his research, "Evolutionary genetics and molecular epidemiology of pathogens: the Trypanosoma cruzi story" Tuesday, April 19th 12:30-1:30 p.m. in Monroe 157.
In addition, he will be introducing a journal he founded in 2001, Infection, Genetics and Evolution, which publishes manuscripts relating to genetics and evolution of viruses, bacteria, parasites, vectors and their hosts. The journal has been indexed by Medline, PubMed, and Index Medicus since its origin and was ranked "very good" (3.5/4.0) by the National Library of Medicine in 2003.
His approach is: "integrating lines of research dealing with genetics, genomics, and evolutionary biology of hosts, pathogens, and vectors to disrupt the unwelcome compartmentalization that hinders the development of this field of research…The goal is no less than the founding of a new scientific discipline and a new scientific community."
A reception will follow. The event is free and open to the public. The seminar is sponsored by the Biever Guest Lecture Series and the Department of Biological Sciences, Loyola University New Orleans.
