5th Annual International Student Scholarship Banquet is March 5

The International Student Association (ISA) will hold its 5th Annual International Student Scholarship Banquet on Saturday, March 5, 2005, from 7:00 - 9:30 p.m., in the St. Charles Room.

This year’s banquet will showcase a variety of African foods and the music of Kumbuka African Drum & Dance Collective. ISA is honored to have Ambassador Charles R. Baquet III, as the keynote speaker. Baquet, a New Orleans native, began his career in public service by serving as a Peace Corps Volunteer in the Somali Republic from 1965 to 1967. He also served as both Director and Deputy Director of the Peace Corps, U.S. Ambassador to Djibouti and the U.S. Counsel General at the U.S. Embassy in South Africa when Nelson Mandela was released. He is currently Director of the Center for Intercultural and International Programs at Xavier University of Louisiana.
Doors open at 6:30 p.m. for a silent auction. Guests will have an opportunity to bid on beautiful international crafts from all over the world. Costa Rican music students from the College of Music will also perform. All proceeds will benefit the International Student Scholarship Fund developed to help international students who may need additional financial assistance once they enroll at Loyola. This year’s International Student Scholarship Banquet is a wonderful opportunity to support a great cause and to spend an enjoyable evening.
