School of Law hosts annual Brendan Brown lecture

The School of Law at Loyola University will present its 2004 Brendan Brown Lecture Series on Thursday, March 11, 2004 at 3 p.m. in the Gisevius Appellate Moot Room 308 of the law school, 526 Pine St.

The lecturer this year is John V. Orth, William Rand Kenan Jr., Professor of Law at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. The title of his lecture is ôThe Secret Sources of Judicial Power.ö Orth wrote The Judicial Power of the United States: The Legal History of Trade Unionism and The North Carolina State Constitution: A Reference Guide as well as numerous scholarly articles and book reviews. He is an associate editor of the American National Biography published by Oxford University Press and a contributor to the Oxford Companion to the Supreme Court of the United States. He is also currently active in the legal history section of the Association of American Law Schools, having served as chair of the section.

The Brendan Brown Natural Law Institute, established through the generosity of the late Brendan Brown, a faculty member in the School of Law, sponsors a major annual lecture, colloquia, and other scholarly activities in keeping with Brownĺs love of the natural law and scholarly discourse.
