Richard McCarthy honored as a champion of Public Health

Richard McCarthy, IV, co-founder and executive director of the Economics Institute at Loyola and its flagship project, the Crescent City Farmers Market, was honored by the Tulane University School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine as one of this year's Champions of Public Health.

McCarthy is a New Orleans native. He received his bachelorĺs degree in international relations from Richmond College in London and his master's degree from the London School of Economics. An avid food fanatic and gardener, McCarthy is a vegetarian. He also has a passion for Italian motor scooters and skateboarding. Pledged to sharing technical expertise, he frequently travels to assist communities in the planning and execution of projects like farmersĺ markets. In 2002, he led a small team to participate in the United Nations World Summit on Sustainable Development in South Africa (and the preparatory meetings in Indonesia). McCarthy is married to Bonnie Goldblum and they have a daughter, Beatrix.

McCarthy received his award at a gala celebration on November 17 in the Audubon Tea Room.
