Loyola to host NCAA Final Four Sportswriting Seminar April 3

(New Orleans)—The Loyola University New Orleans Department of Communications and the U.S. Basketball Writers Association (USBWA) will offer “Full Court Press: A Sportswriting Seminar and Scholarship Program,” for aspiring high school and college writers during the NCAA Final Four weekend, April 3 – 6, 2003.
The seminar will provide students with the opportunity to meet nationally renowned sportswriters and cover events during the weekend of the tournament. Students participating in the program will enter their stories into a competition for three $1,000 scholarships provided by the USBWA. One student will be chosen to cover the NCAA national championship game.
Before covering the NCAA Final Four events, students will attend a panel discussion, featuring Malcolm Moran of USA Today; Mike DeCourcy of The Sporting News; Blair Kerkhoff of the Kansas City Star; and prominent freelance writer Lee Feinswog. Peter Finney, A'49, sports editor of The Times Picayune will serve as moderator for the seminar. The discussion will be held at Loyola University on Thursday, April 3, 2003. It will begin at 9:30 a.m. and will take place in the Danna Center’s St. Charles Room, located on Loyola’s main campus. Media are encouraged to attend this event.
Applicants must e-mail applications to Dr. Larry Lorenz of Loyola’s Department of Communications at firstname.lastname@example.org. Each applicant should include name, school and e-mail address, journalism instructor and a statement verifying that he or she will be able to attend the session on Thursday morning, April 3, at Loyola University.
The first 100 applicants will receive a return e-mail verifying registration and giving further details concerning the seminar.
