College of Music hosts annual Metropolitan Opera Gulf Coast Regional Auditions

(New Orleans)—Loyola University New Orleans College of Music hosts the annual Metropolitan Opera Gulf Coast Regional Auditions on Sunday, February 16 at 1:30 p.m. The auditions will be held in the Louis J. Roussel Performance Hall, on the second floor of the Communications/Music Complex located at the corner of Calhoun Street and St. Charles Avenue.

The auditions are open to the public. A donation of $5 is requested.

The Metropolitan Opera judge will be Lenore Rosenburg, artistic administrator for the Metropolitan Opera in New York. Associate judges include Lotfi Mansouri, former general director of the San Francisco Opera and Susan Ashbaker, artistic director of the Opera Company of Philadelphia.

The year's auditions will feature 12 singers from the New Orleans, Shreveport, Mobile, and Puerto Rico districts, including soprano Angela Mannino (22 yrs), Metairie, La.; tenor José Hernandez (29 yrs), New Orleans, La.; bass Bryce Smith, 26 yrs, Hattiesburg, Miss.; baritone Jon Truitt (30 yrs.), Hammond, La.; soprano Melliangee Perez-Maldonado (25 yrs), San Juan, Puerto Rico; tenor Fabian Robles (25 yrs), Bayamon, Puerto Rico; mezzo soprano Amanda Tarver (23 yrs), Hammond, La.; baritone Timothy Kennedy (25 yrs), Baton Rouge, La.; soprano Laura Rey (22 yrs), San Juan, Pureto Rico; tenor Juan Carlos Rodriguez (29 yrs), Humacao, Puerto Rico; mezzo-soprano LaToya Lain (26 yrs), New Orleans, La.; and bass-baritone Francis Courtenay (26 yrs), New Orleans, La.

Two Loyola graduates are included in this year's competition—Francis Courtenay and Angela Mannino, who both appeared in the recent Loyola production of Mozart's Così fan tutte.

The Metropolitan Opera will present a singers masterclass with Lotfi Mansouri on Monday, February 17 at 10 a.m. in Roussel Hall. Admission is free and open to the public.
