Magazine Editor Betsy Carter to speak October 8

As part of the Biever Guest Lecture Series at Loyola University, and in conjunction with Loyola’s Department of Communication and the Women’s Resource Center, magazine editor Betsy Carter will read from her autobiography, “Nothing to Fall Back On.” The event will be on October 8, in the Audubon Room of the Danna Center, at 7 p.m. The public is invited to this free lecture.

Carter’s career has included editing positions with several national magazines. She was the founding editor of AARP’s My Generation (circulation 3 million), editor-in-chief of New Woman and founding editor of New York Woman. She has also been an editor at Harper’s Bazaar, Esquire and Newsweek. Her book details her adventures including fire, illness, divorce, accidents, and bad relationships. The book is set in the world of magazine publishing.

In addition to the public reading, Carter will visit the American Women Journalists class in the communications department, taught by S. L. Alexander. Carter’s husband, Gary Hoenig, current editor of ESPN Magazine will accompany her and will visit several sections of Beginning Reporting classes throughout the day.
