Loyola University New Orleans 2002 Bateman team Selected as finalist in national competition

Loyola press release - April 11, 2002

(New Orleans)ŚThe 2002 Bateman team from Loyola University has again been selected as one of three finalists in the annual national competition sponsored by the Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA). The Bateman contest is considered by many to be the most challenging and prestigious national competition for public relations students.

Loyola teams won the national competition in 1997 and 2000. This is the third consecutive year that Loyola has finished in the top three schools. Loyola has placed in the top five schools for the past six consecutive years.

The team will travel to Honolulu, Hawaii, May 1 - 5 to compete in the final round. The team will present its campaign to this year's client, Contiki Holidays, a worldwide travel company for 18- to 35-year olds, and to judges from the PRSSA and the Public Relations Society of America. The theme of the campaign is "Travelers Wanted." The judges will select first, second, and third place rankings.

Seniors team members are Ashley Riley from Dallas, Texas, and Ana Gonzalez from El Paso, Texas. Other members are Amanda Padalewski from Kenner, La., and Vanessa Rodriguez from Miami, Fla. All the team members are communications majors. Cathy Rogers, associate professor of communications at Loyola, is the faculty advisor.

Forty-eight schools submitted entries for the competition last fall. The other two national finalists for 2002 are the universities of Georgia and South Carolina.
