Loyola University New Orleans professors recognized for achievements
Loyola press release - July 30, 2001
(New Orleans)—Loyola University New Orleans Associate Professor of Communications Mary Blue, Ph.D., was recognized with the Excellence in Teaching Award presented by the College of Arts and Sciences. Blue, a member of the faculty since 1981, was selected after colleagues, alumni, and present students submitted glowing letters of support. She was described as an excellent professor, a role model for other teachers, and a committed professional who stays current within the ever-changing media production industry.
One letter stated, "For most college students, having the same professor for different classes would be a horrible punishment. . .being taught by Dr. Blue for several classes is a treasured reward."
Others wrote that Blue’s classroom instructions and directions were lessons for life. As a former student wrote, "She showed me to be calm and strong when disaster strikes, and to be feisty and vocal when the status quo needs shaking."
Dane Ciolino, an associate professor of law, was presented with the Louisiana State Bar Association’s President’s Award for contributions to the association. Specifically, Ciolino was recognized for writing Louisiana Professional Responsibility Law and Practice, a book that has been described as "an extraordinary and indispensable tool for the Louisiana lawyer."
In addition to his full-time teaching duties, Ciolino served on the bar’s Professionalism and Quality of Life and Ethics Advisory Service committees. He has written articles on ethics for the Bar Journal and Bar Briefs and has appeared on television programs to discuss ethics and professionalism issues. Ciolino joined the law faculty in 1995.
