Loyola University New Orleans English professor book on World War I nominated for Pulitzer Prize in history

Loyola press release - July 12, 2001

(New Orleans)ŚEarlier this year, Loyola University New Orleans Professor of English John Mosier, Ph.D., published The Myth of the Great War. The book has now been nominated for a Pulitzer Prize in history.

The controversial book argues aggressively that Americaĺs involvement on the allied side has been far more influential than previously thought. In Myth, Mosier contends that the allied continued fighting in French trenches under the delusion that German casualties far outweighed those of the French and Belgian. The book impresses with its scope of knowledge of French military history, appreciation for the terrain, and its sharp revisionism.

Mosier is a 15-year veteran of the Loyola faculty and has taught extensively in European literature and film. HarperCollins published the Myth of the Great War in the United States and the rights were sold to British publisher, Pilot Press.
