Loyola University New Orleans announces "The Universe as Sacred Community" lecture and workshop

(New Orleans)ŚThe Rev. Thomas Berry, C.P., Ph.D., celebrated speaker, teacher, author and advocate for the natural world, will present a lecture and workshop sponsored by the Loyola Institute for Ministry, Loyola University New Orleans. The series, "The Universe as Sacred Community," will be presented March 9 and 10, 2001, on the Loyola campus.

The public lecture is scheduled Friday, March 9, 7 p.m., in the Nunemaker Hall in Monroe Building, 3rd floor, on the main Loyola campus, 6363 St. Charles Avenue. On Saturday, March 10, the workshop will be in Octavia Rooms 1 and 2, in the Danna Center. Costs are $275 for one graduate credit, $105 for one Continuing Education Credit, and $70 for non-credit/listenerĺs license.

In these presentations Berry will examine activities of the universe that provide instruction and inspiration for those who gather with communities of faith. It will encourage celebration of our unique and conscious participation in a scared world.

Thomas Berry holds a Ph.D. in history from the Catholic University of America. He has taught world and eastern religions at St. Johnĺs University, Seton Hall, and Fordham University. He directed the Riverdale Center of Religious Research, in New York, before retiring in 1995 to devote more time to his writing and lecturing.
