Loyola press release - August 17, 2000

(New Orleans)ŚLoyola University New Orleans will be the venue for what is believed to be the first electronic town hall meeting in the state of Louisiana. On August 28, 2000, at 7 p.m., U.S. Congressman David Vitter will conduct what is his first electronic town hall meeting. The meeting will take place in the multi-media classrooms located in the Monroe Library.

Hosting the electronic town hall meeting is the Internet Coalition, a non-profit group developed to promote the use of the Internet in the Greater New Orleans area. The meeting will be audio-stremmed through NOLA LIVE so that people will be able to participate via chat rooms on the NOLA site. Vitter will interact with people in both of the multi-media rooms and answer questions and respond to the discussion in the chat rooms. Curt Sprang, WGNO 26 reporter, will moderate the event.

To participate in Louisianaĺs first electronic town meeting, log onto NOLA.com which will have specific directions on its homepage for participating in the meeting via its chat rooms.

Loyola University was selected as the site for the electronic town hall meeting because of the campusĺ technology infrastructure.
