The Skin of Our Teeth to be performed at Loyola University New Orleans

Loyola press release - October 26, 2000

(New Orleans)One of the best-loved plays of modern times will be the second fall production of Loyola University New Orleans Department of Drama and Speech. The Skin of Our Teeth by Thornton Wilder will run November 3-12 in the Marquette Theater. Donald Brady, Ph.D., will direct the play.

The Skin of Our Teeth, a Pulitzer Prize winner, was first produced in New York in 1942. It tells the story of the Antrobuses, an "average American family" who survives floods, pestilence, the ice age, a dozen wars and as many depressions, always looking to the future with an unflinching optimism. Several theatre critics have called it the best American play ever written.

"Ive directed The Skin of Our Teeth before," says Brady, "Yet the play is constantly surprising me all over again during rehearsals. Its great fun."

"Were always happy to do a classic that audiences truly enjoy," says Georgia Gresham, chair of the department. "This play is a comic testimony to the indestructibility of the human spirit."

The Skin of Our Teeth will be performed in Marquette Theater, 6363 St. Charles Ave., on November 3, 4, 9, 10, and 11 at 8 p.m. and November 5 and 12 at 2 p.m. Tickets are $10 general admission and $7 for students and seniors. Group rates are available. For more information, call 865-3824.
