J. Edgar and Louise S. Monroe Library Named People’s Choice

The 150,000 square-foot J. Edgar and Louise S. Monroe Library has won the third annual Gambit Weekly People’s Choice! Award 2000. Sponsored by Gambit Weekly and the American Institute of Architects New Orleans (AIA), this award is given to New Orleans’ favorite new building as chosen by Gambit Weekly readers. In what Gambit Weekly calls a "landslide victory," the library was ranked first among three competitors, the New Orleans Arena, Poydras Home, and Harrah’s Casino.

The award was presented to the Mathes Group architecture firm, who designed the library, at an AIA Honor Awards Banquet at Tipitina’s.
