Loyola University New Orleans joins with area universities to pay tribute to Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr.

(New Orleans)ŚLoyola University has again joined with Dillard, Xavier, and Tulane universities to sponsor the 14th annual Martin Luther King Week For Peace. The celebration offers the community a fitting tribute to the slain civil rights leader.

To begin the week, on Monday, January 17, an Interfaith Service and Prayer Breakfast starts at 9:30 a.m. at Dillard in the Lawless Chapel. The university is located at 2601 Gentilly Boulevard.

On Wednesday, January 19, Tulane welcomes BET (Black Entertainment Television) Tonight host Tavis Smiley as the keynote speaker of the MLK Convocation. A reception begins at 5 p.m. in the A. B. Freeman School of Business and Smileyĺs remarks will be given at

6:30 p.m in the McAlister Auditorium on Tulaneĺs campus. During the convocation, community service awards will be presented to one student from each of the four universities as well as leaders from the New Orleans area.

On Friday, January 21, a Candlelight March forms at 5 p.m. in the Student Center Quad on Xavierĺs campus. The march begins at 5:30 p.m. at Xavier, 7325 Palmetto Street, and continues to Loyola University. At Loyola, an Expressions of Unity program begins at 7 p.m. in the Louis J. Roussel Performance Hall. Loyola is located at 6363 St. Charles Ave.
