Loyola University New Orleans Co-Sponsors The Music of the Heart Movie Premier

(New Orleans)—Thursday, October 14, is the national celebration of music educators, students, and the arts community in the nationwide single-day premiers of the movie The Music of the Heart. Simultaneous premiers of this movie will take place in 40 cities across the country. The New Orleans premier is scheduled to begin with a reception at The Palace Theatre 20 in Elmwood followed by the movie at 7:30 p.m. The Music of the Heart opens nationwide on October 30.
Two-time Academy Award-winner Meryl Streep stars as a music teacher in the Miramax feature film. Aidan Quinn, Gloria Estefan, and Angela Bassett co-star in the true story of a women who "works in a public school in East Harlem to give kids the hope, pride and power to make something of themselves with the unlikely tool—50 violins."
The goals of the nationwide premiers are to raise awareness and support for music education and emphasize the value of music education programs in America’s schools. VH1 Save the Music Foundation is working in partnership with: The National Coalition for Music Education; The National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences, Inc.; The Music Educators National Conference; the International Music Products Association in cooperation with the American Music Conference and American String Teachers Association; Loyola University New Orleans; Werlein’s For Music; Louisiana Music Educators, and Recording Artists of America in the nationwide celebration.
Loyola was chosen, Gwen Hotchkiss, associate professor at Loyola’s College of Music states because "The College of Music at Loyola is outstanding, our music education program has a national reputation." Hotchkiss adds, "This premiere will help publicize and spotlight the importance of music education in our schools."
