Bilingual Poetry Reading at Loyola University New Orleans

(New Orleans)—Loyola University New Orleans’ Biever Guest Lecture Series, the Modern Foreign Languages and Literatures Department, and the Sigma Delta Pi Spanish Honor Society are sponsoring a bilingual poetry reading on Monday, March 8, 1999, at 7:30 p.m., in Nunemaker Auditorium on Loyola’s main campus, 6363 Saint Charles Avenue.

The event, Bridging the Gulf: a bilingual reading by poets of Mexico City and New Orleans, will feature four readers from Mexico City and four from New Orleans. The participants from Mexico City include Jorge Aguilar Mora, poet, novelist, and essayist; David Huerta, poet, translator, essayist, and journalist; Myriam Moscona, poet, author, and translator; and José Emilio Pacheco, Mexican poet, writer, translator, and scholar. The participants from New Orleans include Andrei Codrescu, poet, author, essayist, commentator, and actor; Lee Grue, Louisiana poet and fiction writer, and poet; James Nolan, poet, short-story writer, essayist, and translator; and Brenda Marie Osbey, poet and author.

Along with the Loyola community, this event is also sponsored by Mexico’s National Fund for Culture and the Arts, the Bancomer Cultural Foundation, the Rockefeller Foundation, the Consulate General of Mexico, and the Mexican Cultural Center of the South.
