Professional piano, voice training available for adults this summer

Loyola press release - April 28, 2014

The Loyola University New Orleans Preparatory Arts program—one of the few comprehensive arts programs in the metropolitan New Orleans area offering a structured program of music studies—is offering music classes catering to adults this summer. The lineup includes three adult piano classes and an eight-week voice series.

The piano classes, beginning in June, include a beginner’s class, a beginning “fake book” class and an adult group class. The fake book class, which is a new offering this summer, will focus on teaching adults how to play popular music from a fake book—known in the music industry as a collection of lead sheets to help musicians learn songs quickly. Piano classes are taught by certified piano teacher Lauren Lewandowski ‘07, M.M. ‘09.

The summer adult voice class, also beginning in June, meets once a week for eight weeks. It focuses on the basics of breathing, posture, vowels and stage presence. Ebonee Davis, who also has a full-time performance career in opera and classical music, teaches the voice classes.

Full class descriptions and tuition costs are available online. A $20 discount is available for those who register and make a half-tuition deposit before May 15. Classes are filled on a first-come, first-served basis.
