Loyola press release - September 16, 2013
The Loyola University New Orleans Institute for Ministry will pay tribute to the late Gerald “Jerry” Matthew Fagin, S.J., with a celebration event Sept. 25 to commemorate the posthumous release of his new book, “Discovering Your Dream: How Ignatian Spirituality Can Guide Your Life.” The event is set for 7 p.m. in the St. Charles Room located in the Danna Student Center on Loyola’s main campus.
"Fr. Jerry Fagin was much beloved by friends and colleagues for his grasp of and deep commitment to Ignatian spirituality, characteristics that come through clearly in his new book," said Tom Ryan, Ph.D., director of the Loyola Institute for Ministry.
The book, just published this month, shows readers how St. Ignatius’ own decision-making process can be molded to meet the needs of our faith and to lead people to the truest version of themselves, getting them closer to what God desires for their lives.
“Jerry was a man who not only knew the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius, but who also truly lived them in his work, his decision-making and in his life. He was a wonderful person to spend time with. He was insightful and humorous and had a wide array of interests. He truly believed that a person can find God in all things,” Loyola President Kevin Wm. Wildes, S.J., Ph.D., said after his passing in June 2012.
Fagin was a member of the New Orleans Province of the Society of Jesus and taught theology and spirituality at Loyola for 33 years. He was a Jesuit for 55 years and a priest for 43 years.
