Loyola University New Orleans’ Jesuit Center and the Alumni Association present “The Spiritual Exercises: The Heart of Ignatian Spirituality,” a series of lectures on Wednesdays in February and March to observe the season of Lent. Each of these free events will take place on Loyola’s main campus at 7 p.m.

"From Servant to Friend: The Ignatian Path to Discipleship"
The Rev. Jerry Fagin, S.J., Ph.D., will give an overview of the spiritual exercises of Ignatius, focusing on the dynamic of the exercises and some of the virtues they instill.

Wednesday, March 14

"Taught by God: Ignatius as Teacher and Student"
Sylvester Tan, S.J., will show how God treated Ignatius just as a schoolmaster treats a child whom he is teaching.

"Not just ‘Jesus and Me’"
The Rev. Fred Kammer, S.J., J.D., will discuss the social implications of the spiritual exercises and Ignatian spirituality.

The entire Loyola community is also invited to attend the Gregorian Chant Laetare Mass on Sunday, March, 18 at 7:30 p.m. in Holy Name of Jesus Church. Co-sponsored by the College of Music and Fine Arts, this Mass in the Latin rite will be celebrated during Lent.

“Experiencing the Eucharistic celebration in the Latin rite, which may not be as familiar to most, is a way to further enrich our Lenten observation. This Eucharistic celebration with Gregorian Chant also allows the community to experience a spirituality that has been a part of the tradition of our faith over the centuries,” said the Rev. Ted Dziak, S.J., director of the Jesuit Center.
