School of Nursing announces $22,500 in online scholarship awards
Loyola press release - February 6, 2012
The Loyola University New Orleans School of Nursing will award $4,500 scholarships to five new students entering the school’s highly-ranked online Master of Science in Nursing program beginning in summer 2012. Registered nurses who are ready to explore the advanced career options made possible with a nursing master’s degree can apply for the scholarship to attend Loyola’s highly-honored, online M.S.N. program by visiting http://scholarship.loyolaneworleansonline.com/msn.
The scholarship awards are in recognition of the School of Nursing’s 33-year history of providing world-class higher education to America’s nurses in a healthcare marketplace struggling with increasing numbers of patients needing regular care and a significant shortage of nurse leaders. A pioneer in adult distance learning, the environment and design of the online M.S.N. program at Loyola is a convenient, cost-effective way for nurses to meet their personal and career goals.
“Our nation’s nurses face a serious career dilemma, one where higher education is essential for career advancement and stability, but demanding work schedules often make traditional classroom learning impossible. We believe every nurse is a leader, and our online Master of Science in Nursing program provides a solution at a top-ranked graduate program.” said Ann H. Cary, Ph.D., M.P.H., R.N., professor and director of the School of Nursing.
This solution meets the Institute of Medicine, Future of Nursing 2011 recommendations to prepare nurse leaders. “Our online M.S.N. program features a specialization in healthcare systems management to prepare Loyola graduates for leadership roles in a variety of healthcare environments,” Cary said. “Flexibility is key in today’s fast-moving healthcare marketplace, and the distinguished online faculty at Loyola brings a wealth of experience from multiple venues of the healthcare industry to help students generate maximum career returns for their investment in education.”
To apply for the scholarships, prospective students are asked to submit an online essay to Loyola University New Orleans that explains what nursing means to them and what a Master of Science in Nursing with a Healthcare Systems Management Specialization would mean for their careers. Loyola faculty and staff will review submissions and select the winners. Once accepted into the online M.S.N. program, scholarship recipients will receive a $4,500 credit to their tuition costs over the course of the two-year program.
Scholarship and admissions applications are now open at http://scholarship.loyolaneworleansonline.com/msn. The first scholarship winners will be announced before the summer 2012 semester that begins in May.
