Loyola professor named to 'Top 100 Nurses in Louisiana' list
Loyola press release - December 12, 2011
Loyola University New Orleans School of Nursing associate professor Barbara A. Bihm, D.N.S., R.N., was named as one of Louisiana’s top 100 nurses for 2011 by the Great 100 Nurses Foundation.
The award, created in 1986, judges nominees on three crucial components: What has the candidate contributed to the nursing profession, what has the person done for humanity and how has the nominee served as a mentor or role model for other nurses? An anonymous group of reviewers score the unidentified nominees based on nominators’ answers to determine the Great 100.
Bihm, who has been a nursing educator for 35 years and a member of the Loyola faculty for more than 20 years, said that the honor was especially moving since the award is a direct result of nominations by her fellow nurses and colleagues.
“It is special to be named a Top 100 Nurse because you have to be nominated by peers, family members, friends or patients,” Bihm said. “A lot of my colleagues had thought I’d already been named to the Top 100 in the past. When they found out that I hadn’t been, they said they’d have to change that.”
“Loyola University New Orleans School of Nursing celebrates the selection of Dr. Bihm as a Great 100 Nurse in Louisiana. She is well-known for her commitment to B.S.N. education, to working nurses and to working to improve the nursing practice in our community,” said School of Nursing Director Ann Cary Ph.D., M.P.H., R.N., A-CCC. “Her current work entails educating and stimulating the creation and use of evidence-based nursing practices. Dr. Bihm illuminates a solid commitment to the health care improvements we see daily in health care facilities and is a prime example of a commitment to excellence.”
