Loyola's Andre Perry to moderate Katrina-related policy panel

Loyola press release - August 22, 2011

Andre Perry, Ph.D., adviser to the Loyola University New Orleans Institute for Quality and Equity in Education, will lead a panel discussion regarding the current and future state of reform in a post-Katrina Gulf Coast at a forum on Monday, August 29 at 1 p.m. at the Hitt Alumni Center on the University of New Orleans campus.

The forum will also introduce a new book “Resilience and Opportunity: Lessons from the U.S. Gulf Coast after Katrina and Rita,” from Brookings Institution Press which examines the complex lessons of the 2005 storms and their aftermath. It offers the first comprehensive look at how the Gulf Coast communities are reemerging from the disasters with resilience and determination.

Several New Orleans researchers contributed to the book which documents the unprecedented civic revival that has breathed energy and accountability into reforms that have the potential to make the region more resilient to future catastrophes. It also assesses the state of current reforms in education and land use planning, as well as lesser-publicized reforms such as in evacuation planning and criminal justice.

The event is free and open to the public, but pre-registration is required. To register, visit http://gnocommunitydatacenter.eventbrite.com/
