Lenten Series offers music, words to reflect on the season of Lent

Loyola University New Orleans Jesuit Center and the Alumni Association present “Sacred Music, Sacred Words,” a series of concerts and lectures in March and April to observe the season of Lent. Every Wednesday night, a speaker or musical group helps attendees reflect on the goodness of God. All events begin at 7 p.m. and are free and open to the public.

2011 Lenten Series schedule:

Wed., March 30: “Music for Mass: 2000 years of Catholic Sung Prayer,” by Loyola’s Ken Weber, associate chaplain of liturgy and music, Holy Name of Jesus Church.

Join the Loyola Community for a sampling of music used in the Catholic mass all over the world, from its beginnings to today. Performed by faculty and students from the College of Music and Fine Arts and University Ministry.

Wed., April 6: “Music and Meditation Meets Cura Personalis,” presentation by David Thies ’06, Ignatius Chapel.

Thies presents a night of peaceful music focused on individualized attention to the soul and caring for the whole person, “Cura Personalis,” during the Lenten season. Slow down, listen, be joyful and take care.

Wed., April 13: “Blocked, Restricted, Unavailable: Is God On Your Contact List?,” presentation by The Rev. Mark Mossa, S.J., Ignatius Chapel, Bobet Hall.

Mossa asks, “Is God calling you to something unique and special that only you can be or do?” Mossa will guide participants on how to become more aware of how our life experience, past and present, shapes who we are and who we become, we can begin to realize who we are meant to be.
