Wolfpack baseball helps Japan with relief fundraiser, fireworks
Loyola press release - March 21, 2011
The Loyola University New Orleans baseball team is encouraging all students, alumni and supporters to attend the March 25 game against Lee University as a way to help disaster relief efforts in Japan. The team will donate a portion of the proceeds from the gate to the NOLA Japan Quake Fund, and members of the Japan Club of New Orleans will also be in attendance providing information and accepting donations on site. The game will be held at Segnette Field, located behind the Alario Center off the Westbank Expressway in Westwego. First pitch between the Wolfpack and Flames is scheduled for 6 p.m. A fireworks display will follow the game.
The event will also feature a collaboration between the sophoMORE Initiative, the Student Government Association, Mission and Ministry, and Athletics and Wellness. Loyola faculty, staff and students can purchase tickets prior to the event for $5, which includes admission to the game, transportation from campus, and food and drink. Tickets for the Loyola community can be purchased in the Danna Student Center or the residence halls on campus.
Buses will begin to load at 4:30 p.m. in the turnaround by Carrollton Hall on the Loyola campus. One bus will return to campus at 7:30 p.m. with the remaining buses returning after the game.
Admission to Loyola baseball games for the general public is $6 for adults. Senior citizens, military, and children between the ages of 12-18 are $3. Children under the age of 12 are free.
“We want to do what we can to help relief efforts in Japan and encourage all the groups on campus, as well as alumni and fans, to come out and take part in a special evening. We also want to thank those who are assisting with this effort to have a post game fireworks display. Not only are we looking forward to the Loyola community coming out, but we hope that our fans on the Westbank and metro New Orleans area can make it as well. It’s going to be a great night,” said Loyola head baseball coach Gee Cassard.
