Film studies professor directs Spinal Tap video, publishes article

Loyola press release - June 1, 2009

Jim Gabour, professor of video technology in the College of Music and Fine Arts, was chosen to produce and direct the video of the final concert of Spinal Tap’s 25th anniversary concert tour, "Unwigged & Unplugged." The three original members of the legendary group, Christopher Guest, Michael McKean and Harry Shearer, performed acoustic renditions of their most notorious rock anthems, transforming them into quieter, more contemplative fare, on Sunday, May 31, in Milwaukee, Wis., at the historic Riverside Theatre.

Other participants in the production included cinematographer Anastos Michos, ASC, as director of photography, and Joe Dizney, former Wall Street Journal international design director, as production designer. Several Loyola University New Orleans graduates also staffed the large-scale production. YES Productions of New Orleans furnished the high-definition, multi-camera location truck for the shoot.

The production will be released on DVD later this summer.

Gabour also recently published an article, "The Plague Spin of New Orleans," with www.opendemocracy.net which was picked up by several other global online media outlets including the Wall Street Journal and USA Today.
