Loyola's Giorlando and Brock honored by LABC

The Louisiana Association of Basketball Coaches has recognized Loyola’s men’s head basketball coach Dr. Michael Giorlando and player Ryan Brock for their outstanding performances in the 2008-09 season. Coach Giorlando received the 2009 Louisiana Small College Coach of the Year award while Brock was named Louisiana Small College Player of the Year.
Dr. Giorlando led Loyola to their second straight winning season after going 19-11 this year. The 19 victories are the most in 50 years for the men’s basketball program. The Wolfpack also went 12-6 in the GCAC which is a team best since joining the conference.
Brock, a sophomore from New Orleans, was Loyola’s top scorer this past season averaging 19.9 points. Brock scored 578 points for the year, which ranks fifth at Loyola for a single season. Along with being named All-GCAC and GCAC Newcomer of the Year, Brock also received an All-American honorable mention and was named second team All-Louisiana.
Giorlando and Brock will be honored at the LABC’s 35th Annual Awards Banquet on Saturday, May 2, at the Embassy Suites Hotel in Baton Rouge.
