Loyola ranks high for undergraduate study abroad

Loyola University New Orleans is ranked among 120 colleges and universities nationwide with the highest percentages of undergraduates who study abroad, according to the Open Doors report.
The report ranks colleges and universities in three separate categories: doctorate, master’s and baccalaureate institutions offering study abroad in the 2006-2007 school year. Loyola ranks 35th among master’s universities, with 32.6 percent of undergraduates participating in international study.
The report is published by the Institute of International Education, a nonprofit agency which promotes international understanding of international students studying in the United States and U.S. students studying abroad. IIE surveyed approximately 3,000 accredited U.S. institutions to compile the report.
Loyola students can choose to study in dozens of countries around the world. This year, 46 Loyola undergrads are studying in 18 different countries including non-traditional locales, such as Finland, India, Brazil, South Africa and Chile.
Debbie Danna, director of the Center for International Education at Loyola, credits the success of Loyola’s Study Abroad Program to the work of dedicated faculty and the individualized attention the CIE gives students.
"We work with students individually to find a program that matches their academic and personal goals," Danna said. "And the faculty has worked very hard to develop strong programs in a variety of countries."
