Jazz Underground Series features accomplished Afro-Cuban and Latin jazz percussionist

Jazz percussionist Bill Summers will present a concert featuring selections from his recent album “Orchestra Yoruba Afro America,” on Thursday, Feb. 12, at 7:30 p.m., in Satchmo’s Jazz Café, in the lower level of the Danna Student Center.

Tickets are $10 for general admission and $5 for students and Loyola faculty and staff.

Summers is a New Orleans-based Afro-Cuban jazz and Latin jazz percussionist. He was a member of the internationally famed group Los Hombres Calientes along with his friend and group co-leader, Irvin Mayfield.

Summers has worked behind the scenes with numerous recording artists, including Quincy Jones, Herbie Hancock, Kenny Loggins, Kermit Ruffins and Michael Jackson. He has also worked on film scores for “The Color Purple” and the television miniseries “Roots.”
