Loyola theatre presents "The Scene," a comedy about ego, showbiz and a little black dress
Loyola press release - February 2, 2009
"The Scene," a fierce, edgy and scathing comedy by Theresa Rebeck, will open the Loyola University New Orleans 2009 spring theatre season. Directed by Artemis Preeshl, “The Scene” is a modern and sharply written variation of a marital love triangle and is full of people in the scene, on the scene and desperate for the scene.
The theatre department has also announced special incentive rates for “The Scene.” These include Ladies Night, on which women receive half off the regular ticket price, on Feb. 10 and 11; Stag Night, on which men receive half off the regular ticket price, on Feb. 12 and 13; and Couples Night, on which couples receive two tickets for the price of one, on Feb. 14 and 15. For more information about these special rates, contact the Loyola Box Office at (504) 865-2074.
Charlie, an older out-of-work actor, is spiritually famished and morally adrift, having been part of the entertainment industry for nearly two decades. He is desperately searching for something real in a seemingly surreal world.
Enter fresh-faced and ambitious Clea. She and Charlie have a heated affair that eventually dissipates leaving Charlie with empty pockets and more emotionally, spiritually and morally adrift than ever. What once seemed absurd and surreal suddenly becomes all too real for Charlie’s lost soul.
"The Scene" is an entertaining send up of our celebrity conscious culture. It gives new meaning to the “little” in the ever fashionable little black dress. – Curtainup.com
"The Scene" will run Feb. 10-14 at 8 p.m., and Feb. 15 at 2 p.m., in Loyola’s Lower Depths Theater, located in the Communications/Music Complex on the corner of St. Charles and Calhoun streets.
