Moot Court team advances to finals

Loyola press release - November 24, 2008

Loyola’s team will join 26 other national teams advancing from 13 regions to the national finals in New York City on Monday, Feb. 2, 2009.

Team members include students Richard Brown, Chris Otten and brief writer Katie May. The team is coached by fellow student Leigh Anne Gilchrist and advised by Monica Wallace, associate professor in the College of Law. In addition to winning first place, the Loyola team was awarded Best Brief of the Competition, and Chris Otten was awarded Best Oralist in the final round.

Gilchrist said, “This victory is a testament to the quality and dedication that a student run oral advocacy program can deliver. With an excellent argument, exemplary brief and understanding that hard work makes all difference, we were able to bring the trophy back to Loyola. We look forward doing the same in New York.”

The Loyola Moot Court Program endeavors to foster the art of appellate advocacy with responsiveness and enthusiasm through team advancement, academic support and community involvement, thereby enhancing national recognition and pride among its members.
