Alumna and trustee makes Chicago Business' "40 Under 40"

Loyola press release - November 17, 2008

Loyola University New Orleans congratulates Shawn M. Donnelley, a Loyola graduate and member of the board of trustees, for her inclusion in Chicago Business’ list of “40 Under 40.” Donnelley, who graduated in 1991, is the founder of Strategic Giving, LLC.

In naming Donnelley one of the most notable young citizens of America’s third largest city, the magazine recognized her work in enhancing charitable giving and her service to nonprofits. Donnelley increased her own family foundation’s charitable giving from $2 million to $10 million over five years.

In 2000, Donnelley left the family business and founded Strategic Giving, a philanthropic consulting firm, to help companies choose nonprofits in which to invest. According to Chicago Business, her clients donate $10 million to nonprofits annually.

Donnelley is well known for philanthropy at Loyola as well.

In 1996, Donnelley made the first of many gifts to establish Loyola’s Shawn M. Donnelley Center for Nonprofit Communications in the College of Social Sciences. The center offers communications students an opportunity to assist nonprofit organizations with advertising and promotional campaigns. Under faculty supervision, students provide market research, branding plans, public education campaigns and other services to nonprofits.

Donnelley is the youngest chair ever of Chicago’s Goodman Theatre and was named one of the 100 “Women Making a Difference in Chicago” by Today’s Chicago Woman magazine in 1997. In 2000, Oprah Winfrey’s Angel Network honored Donnelley for her community involvement, and Alpha Chi Omega Woman's Fraternity recognized her as an Outstanding Young Alumna.
