Loyola community volunteers for seventh annual day of service

Loyola press release - November 10, 2008

Loyola University New Orleans Wolfpack pride and community service was on exhibit all over the country for two days in November, as alumni and students participated in two days of volunteer projects in New Orleans and in their hometowns.

Wolves on the Prowl is an annual day of service planned and led by the Office of Alumni Affairs, which pairs volunteers from the Loyola community with programs that need help. This year, alumni in eight cities, including New Orleans, will roll up their sleeves for charity.

On Saturday, Nov. 1, alumni worked in two schools in Chicago; assisted in the Boston Lung Cancer Society Fun Run and Walk; volunteered at the Armed Forces Retirement Home in Washington, D.C.; and served women residents of the Daybreak Program at Ocean Park Community Center in Santa Monica, Ca. On Nov. 8, volunteers hit the ground at various projects in St. Louis, Tampa, New York City and New Orleans.

In New Orleans, students joined Loyola alumni on several projects. Volunteers participated in a field day with Good Shepherd School, painted Andrew H. Wilson Charter School, planted pots at Project SMILE, cleaned a New Orleans Recreation Department park and refurbished the facilities break room space at Loyola.

Associate Director of Alumni Relations David Robinson-Morris said Wolves on the Prowl service projects are great ways for alumni to stay involved and contribute to Loyola’s mission to develop individuals who dedicate their lives to service for others.

“In the Jesuit tradition, our volunteers seek perspective on their service through group and personal reflection,” said Robinson-Morris. “Wolves on the Prowl is an opportunity for students and alumni to interact with local communities that reflect the reality of the world around them, and inspire them to act.”
