MBA Team wins IDEACorps Pitch event

March 28, 2014

The Loyola University New Orleans MBA Team won first place today for the IDEACorps Pitch for New Orleans Entrepreneur Week 2014. The team presented to a panel of professionals and entrepreneurs to promote Cajun Fire Brewery, a locally owned and operated New Orleans-based craft brewery startup.

An independent craft brewery, Cajun Fire produces ales inspired by local flavors, including their Acadiana Honey Ale and their Praline Ale. The company is the second locally-owned brewery in Orleans Parish and only the third African American-owned brewery in the U.S.

The Loyola team worked with Cajun Fire to evaluate its business plan and prioritize tasks to help the company expand its business. For Cajun Fire to increase local awareness and expand production processes, the team recommended focusing on local markets and promoting Cajun Fire’s top two flavors.

Loyola’s team competed against top business schools including Tulane University, Cornell University, University of California Berkley, the University of Chicago and the University of Pennsylvania.

On the Loyola team were Kevin Gordon (team leader), Michael Barrera, Melissa Gurdian, Ryan Murphy, William Mather, and Nicholas Hanson. Felipe Massa, Ph.D., served as faculty adviser for the team.

Cajun Fire will compete at the Big Idea at 5 p.m. tonight at Fulton Street. The Loyola community is encouraged to attend and vote for one of the competing entrepreneurs. Voting chips are available for $25 each. Register at http://www.noew.org/. The three entrepreneurs that earn the most chips will compete for the $50,000 prize to be invested in the business.
