Annual fundraiser supports Loyola baseball scholarships

March 28, 2014

Loyola University New Orleans' Office of Alumni Affairs is hosting the fourth annual Coach Louis “Rags” Scheuermann Baseball Fundraiser Tuesday, April 22 from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. at Rock 'n' Bowl at Mid-City Lanes, 3000 S. Carrollton Ave. in New Orleans. The event benefits the Coach Louis “Rags” Scheuermann Baseball Scholarship, named in honor of the late Loyola legend and New Orleans icon.

Tickets are $100 per person or $150 per couple. Tickets for young alumni who graduated between 2003 and 2013 are $75. The cost includes a buffet, wine and beer. Register online at alumni.loyno.edu/coachrags. There will also be a raffle for gift certificates and other items. Attendees must be 18 years or older; casual attire suggested.

From 1957 to 1972, Scheuermann led the Wolf Pack baseball team to unprecedented heights, winning 234 games and compiling an impressive .649 winning percentage. He died in 1997.

Athletic scholarships were eliminated in 1972 when Loyola disbanded its intercollegiate athletic program. Loyola reinstated its athletics program in the 1990s and athletic scholarships in 2004. The Louis “Rags” Scheuermann scholarship is the first endowed scholarship fund created solely for the benefit of Wolf Pack baseball.
