Loyola celebrates golden anniversary of men's basketball team
March 28, 2014
The Loyola University New Orleans 1960s men’s basketball team will celebrate their golden anniversary Wednesday, April 16. The festivities begin at 2 p.m. with a campus tour, followed by a reception in the Faculty/Staff Dining Room on the second floor of the Danna Student Center. Guests will be able to view photos and newspaper articles from their time as student athletes. Registration is $25 per person.
Prior to the tour and reception, a dinner is planned for 7 p.m on Tuesday, April 15 at Bon Ton Café, 401 Magazine Street. Please notify the restaurant at 504-524-3386 if you would like to attend.
Fifty years ago, Loyola basketball teams of the 1960s played some of the best teams in the country: Kentucky, LSU, FSU, Michigan State, Oklahoma City, Texas Western, and Miami.
“Our players came from all over the USA,” said alumnus and former Loyola basketball player John Erb ’67, who helped organize the dinner. “They were great guys and tough competitors. All were top players from their schools and regions.”
