Loyola at a Glance
February Montage calendar boasts free concerts

Four free concerts at Loyola University New Orleans in February will run the musical gamut, featuring programs from the classical repertoires of Johann Sebastian Bach and Maurice Ravel to the electronic sounds of the modern laptop orchestra.
All performances are open to the public and set for Louis J. Roussel Performance Hall, located in the Communications/Music Complex on Loyola’s main campus.
- Violinist Amy Thiaville and pianist Brian Hsu, Sunday, Feb. 9, 3 p.m.
Loyola professors Thiaville and Hsu will present an afternoon of music by Bach, Ravel and Gerald Finzi.
- “Valentines,” featuring flutist Patti Adams and pianist Yui Asano, Thursday, Feb. 13, 7:30 p.m.
This musical Valentine will feature Loyola faculty members Adams and Asano in a program of beloved flute works that are special to Adams, including Yuko Uebayashi's "Sonata for Flute and Piano" and Joan Tower's 2010 composition, "Rising." The program also includes music by Joseph Schwanter, Gunnar de Frumerie, Paul Bonneau and Martin Scot Kosins. Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra musicians also performing are violinists Ben Hart and Byron Tauchi, violist Richard Woehrle, and cellist Jonathan Gerhardt.
- Electronic Music at Loyola, Saturday, Feb. 15, 7 p.m.
Members of Loyola’s own student laptop orchestra, the Electro-Acoustic Ensemble, will join faculty and alumni in a program that integrates computers into conventional music making.
- Josh Paulus, Horn Recital, Thursday, Feb. 20, 7:30 p.m.
Paulus, a new horn professor at Loyola, will present a recital of 20th century American music for horn. The program will feature works by Vincent Persichetti, Alec Wilder, Doug Hill and Gunther Schuller, including the latter's seldom performed "5 Pieces for 5 Horns," featuring the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra's horn section. Asano will accompany on piano.
